Does anybody know whether National insurance is deducted from two jobs or whether it should be paid from one job only?

Your self insurance liability depends on the amount you earn. Assuming youre self employed, if you submit your tax returns online the system will calc it all for you. (Class 2 Nic's)
Your class 4's are a fixed weekly amount, you should get a quarterly bill for these from the IR0 -
Other way round. Class 2 are fixed and your Class 4 liability is worked out later based on earnings - and of course that particular advice assumes that the OP is actually referring to Self Employment. Plus some of us are contract workers who have duality of status which means we have Class 1 deducted at source and pay class 4 on other bits and pieces. It's not always clear cut.
If one of your jobs is self employed, do seek advice from the National Insurance helpline - you may be able to apply for deferrment if your self employed liability is expected to be small. I've always found NI advice very good.Yeah, whatever. I'm a grown up, I can take it...0
