Hi,
Can anyone tell me what age you can start work, as I am having to give my daughter jobs and pay her to learn about work in the real world, I give her days off, holidays and sick pay. She is nearly 13 but she and I would love for her to start a little Saturday job, but I am not sure if it is 14, 15 or 16 years that young people are allowed by law to work, can anyone help?
Thanks

i think you can do a paper round at 13. small businesses might take on a teenager but i think big places like tesco ect like you to be 16.0

Legally you can start work in a job at 13 but doing very restricted hours (ie you cant work more than 2 hours on a Sunday). The amount of hours you can work gradually increases with each birthday until you are 16 and you can work full time.
Theres also restrictions on what type of work under 16's can do, ie they cant work in a cafe or any type of food place, or a cinema, etc.
Most companies probably have their own company policy, Im sure as the previous poster says you wouldnt get a job in Tescos, it would probably be a small business like a pet shop or something.
Good luck with it !0 -
If you're 13 or 14 ...
On school days you can only work up to two hours a day, one hour before school and one hour after school.
On Saturdays, you can work up to five hours and two hours on a Sunday.
In the school holidays you can work up to five hours a day but no more than 25 hours in a week.
For two weeks in the school holiday, you cannot work at all... so put your feet up!
