Helium Balloons

In an effort to keep costs down I am enlisting a load of my friends and family to help me do the decorations instead of getting a company....

Got a question though: I am doing helium balloons and wondered if I blew them up the night before, would they last till the end of the following night?

Thank you!!

  • to my own knowledge it depends how you store them

ive been told if you store them in a cold room then you will be ok - the helium will only deflate in a warm/hot room

dont know if that is the case or not - only what ive experienced and been told

  • I would say no, I work in a place where we have helium balloons and they generally dont last the whole day without a few deflating.

I am doing my own balloons for the evening reception and am having them blown up at 6pm in the hope that they will last the whole night?
  • Hi

I would say no. I went to a wedding where they had done that and they were all on the floor by the time of the reception!

I also phoned a couple of balloon companies and they said they wouldn't last 24 hours without deflating to some extent. Apparantly you can buy some sort of gel you squeeze into the balloon before you inflate it and it makes them last a longer time.

I didn' take the risk and hubby and best man had to get to the venue a couple of hours before the ceremony to inflate them all. Didn't take long though there were lots of guests willing to give them a helping hand.

I asked my venue about using helium balloons and they recommended i dont get any till the morning of the wedding as they will not last 12hours the later in the day you can get themt o the venue without cutting to much into your morning you should be fine.

I did decorations for a few birthday parties and was warning helium balloons usually only last for about 8 hours so I wouldn't advice blowing them up the night before. There are balloons that you can buy from some specialist shops that are coated with something that makes them last longer. Might be worth having a look? Good luck!

In my experience no unless they are foil ones. There is a gel that you can buy (not cheap though) that you can pump into the balloon before filling with helium that makes the balloons last about a week.
Thanks for the advice Martin! :money:
