Court holding money from repossesion of home

My home was reposessed 2 years ago and cause bank couldn't get in touch with me money went to the court.
For two months i have been trying to get the funds released to myself with no success there asking for a letter or certificate from hm revenues saying i'm due no tax.
I have phoned hm rev 4 times and they say don't know what i'm looking for and won't send letter.i have never been self employed so am not due any tax i hope. The problem is the court won't release money and i can't get letter from h m revenue. When i was speaking to court the cashier said that hm revenue get first bite at my money which was worrying as i have old council tax debt so is that going to come of as well.Any advice on the above topic would be helpful.
