Letter help

If you are asked to send your CV and a covering letter or written application how should you present it/word it. Any advice please would be great. Thank you

Comments

  • The covering letter should be no longer than one page and should have
    organisation name
Person to whom the job applications are being sent
Where you saw the position advertised.
A bit about where you are working at the moment and what your role involves ( and how this is relevant to the role you are applying to)
A bit about your work style and any studying/learning and development you are involved with.
End it with something like-I look forward to discussing this further with you

As bigspender has already said, please please please make sure you put on your cover letter what position you are applying for!

As I type I am surrounded by applications that I am sifting, and out of about 50 apps I have a pile of 12that dont state what job they want. I am recruiting for a few vacancies and am now having to guess! I also have one with no contact details on!

Depends on the sector, too, to an extent. In some fields, longer letters and CVs are the norm - in others, you're talking 1 page, with 1.5 line spacing...

On a couple of occasions where I've been unsure how much was expected, I politely called HR and asked if they had a preference. They seemed happy enough to tell me.
