Are you in Scotland? Sounds like it, from the reference to sheriffs. Law is different there - try this site which has a section for Scottish debts if you are there. https://www.debtquestions.co.uk/debt_forum/

Ornaments etc are safe - unless you have antique paintings etc worth a fortune! Probably not a good idea to start putting stuff in gf's name - I have a feeling they can get round that if it's done close to someone going bankrupt. In English law, cars are safe if they are worth only about £2000 or less and you need them for work, I think.
  • the OR routinely does DVLA history searches and looks through bank statements for evidence of asset puchases which are not disclosed. i would ignore the girlfriend: disposal or concealment of assets is a crimnal offence in abnkruptcy, so you would be risking being prosecuted in the bankruptcy also, the OR may consider applying for a bankruptcy restrictions order, if granted court could make you subject to the bankruptcy restrictions for up to 15 years.
In Bankruptcy items neccessary for domestic needs are not taken, neither are items that would sell for less than the costs of selling. so baisc furniture appliances tv computer etc are safe. anything less than one year old and worth say over £1500 may be taken. a car is also an asset in bankruptcy unless you can show it is essential for your employment: needings it for kids or other family needs does not matter.
If your bank account is in credit when you go bankrupt and used for receipt of salary it may not be frozen, the OR will send notice to the bank and it is up to the bank.
I dont understand how your situation arose: you spent money which was not yours?

I would take out any peronal items such as jewelry or small items that you don't want to lose (not computers or cars), as they will sell for very little anyway.
