Council tax panic please help!

I know this is like closing the door after the horse has bolted :eek: but I reckon it is wise to always check that all payments are correct and on time. I have set up a spreadsheet on my computer and then compare my bank statements with it. This way I know everything is going to plan. Even better since doing this I have been able to make my money work so much better for me as I can plan ahead, see the long tem benefits of small weekly savings and we have managed extra holidays as a result. As i lost my job and so did my g friend i have spoken to my Council and as we are now working and playing catch up with things i asked if they could spread the £381 from last year on this year but i was told that they don't do that, instead they just take you to court.

The sooner it is stopped the better and it is based on what you can not what they want. This country needs to wake up and stop being taken for idiots. How a council can say that charging you £1300 a year is fair is beyond me when if you look at how much they pay themselves and fill up their pension pots how many people are paying for that before others start paying for the local services that the councils are doing down with. They seem ok to pay themselves a kings ransom yet close public loos etc. My council, Bournemouth wastes so much of our money i'm not surprised they have to cut back, paying an employment firm £200k to fill a post that would get £50k, paying a firm to advise on efficiency £80k when they pay someone £100k to do the same bloody thing.

We need to get many many people to stop their direct debits and go onn a day out to their council hall and tell them we are not putting up with it then go nad knock on Brown and Co's door.

What is it you want stopping? If you think local government spending should be funded by a form of local income tax, I would doubt that we'd pay much less.

Who said it was "fair"? It's what they believe they need, not necessarily what they in fact need.

Right on .... I always pay my CT but like to make the point that, as it's generally a fairly arbitary charge it can't possibly be termed a pure 'tax'. I struggle like hell to pay the £1400 a year. We go without heating in order to afford. As our joint income is only about £15k we don't receive help.

With you on that James our income is about £10k and we still owe about £400 from last year...at the moment our tax credit just about covers the weekly repayments. Can we make a gesture of a minimum repayment of £1-5 so that we can start to at least eat:mad: properly again?
