Consequences of defaulting on a French Mortgage.

Hello, it's looking likely, due to the recession and the disastrous drop in the pound, that we may have to default on our French mortgage with HSBC and return to England. Will this affect my chances of being able to rent privately, by affecting my credit rating etc... I have spoken to the bank and don't think the French are very geared up for this, as they talk to me like I will be hunted down by Interpol !!!

I would hope they would have legal recourse...
One wouldn't like the idea that people could leave one's own country to avoid debts here. I've successfully pursued people who left here & am pleased to report they are having to pay me, notwithstanding being in a different legal jurisdiction. Took time & money but it was a matter of principle.
I'm sure you wouldn't like the French property developers or Estate Agents to be able to take money off decent, honest English punters and then run off with the loot with no legal recourse from this country??
Obvious HSBC have British offices as well as elsewhere & finding you probably won't be that hard.
Anyway, you'd do the decent thing and not want to be seen by some as a cheat?? I know you wouldn't be a cheat but people do think things: Particularly on St. George's day of all days.
Cheers!

What a truely bizarre post.
The person is asking for some help. Where exactly do they even suggest that they are going to go on the run from France!!!
I can't advise on this, I can't help because I have no idea. So suppose I'm doing the same as you really.... posting something totally irrelevant and non-helpful :rotfl:0 -
LOL...... I can tell you that your credit will be ruined. The credit rating system is actually attached to the european bureaux. Each companies uses a different system but they are all rather connected.
They might just wipe the mortgage clean when you do a runner but it will ruin your financial record throughout your life. You will struggle also to get a decent job.Motto: 'If you don't ask, you don't get!!'
Remember to say thank you to people who help you out!
Also, thank you to people who help me out.0 -
Wasn't planning to CHEAT anyone you complete !!!!!!!
Just that the Fench banks are not geared up for people having payment problems and just shrug their shoulders and say "too bad". There are a few of us Brits experiencing the same thing.
So try reading the post correctly before you start pontificating to others you knob!0 -

Hi have you thought about trying to get someone to take the property off you on a rent to buy type of agreement? These agreements are legal and are becoming quite common accross Europe - email me if you want to know more?0
