As above, I'm a student and work part time, I get tax credits because I have a disability. I was getting taxed at between £40 and £60 per month with the tax code 604L. I earned less than £6000 before April 5th so is that money refundable and do I need to do anything to get it or will it come automatically?

You need to write to your tax office enclosing your P60 and ask them to check for a refund.

My Dad is in a similar situation but he took early retirement in February therefore he hasn't got a P60 to send HMRC because he wasn't in employment when the tax year ended so what does he do instead- does he just write to them without a P60 ?

Is he getting a pension from his employer? If so, he will get a P60 for that. He would need to send the P60 and his P45 to his tax office.
If he is not gettting an employment pension, he can download form P50 from www.hmrc.gov.uk and send that to his tax office with his P45.
