I really like the herb idea. Alternatively you could supply the pot and seed packets for them to make themselves.
You could bake some biscuits, make fudge etc

My little one is leaving nursery this year and i'm going to get her to draw a picture of her teachers individually and then frame them and give them as presents.
As for "big" school - you could get an apple shape cookie cuter, get your child to make some apple shaped shortbread biscuits (with adult supervision) and wrapped that in celophane & add a handmade thank you card.
Or decorate a flower pot, add some soil & flower seeds and get your child to copy out a little poem about being a great teacher and making them grow - sorry cant remember exactly what the poem is, will try to find it later on and post it.

I will be doing these because I have lots of teachers/staff to thank. Will cut out the templates ready for the kids to decorate, add a few photos and messages of thanks

I love the idea of the teacher survival kit, I was just wondering if there was an English version of it as the above are very American :-)0
