Loan nightmare - don't use comparison sites

I was looking to take out a loan - £6000 over 4 years.
I did a search on-line and was quoted 7.9- 8.9% and then saw this comparison web site: beatthatquote.com
I assumed these worked like "comparethemarket" when looking for car insurance,
Alas, what they do not tell you is that the give your details to several sites and this negatively affects your credit rating!
I did manage to get it down from 15+% to 10.9% - still way over the original 7.9%
All rather galling, when I have never had a loan before, have no mortgage as house comes with job (Minister) and I have no debts.
Learned the hard way - has cost me dearly.
Be wary of these comparison sites!

in my experience, typical rates are tough to acheive, unless its from a lender you already have a relationship with. (bank or mortgage co)0

I have been with Giro bank now Alliance & Leicester for over 25 years - they offered 19%
In the old days I would have gone into the bank and chatted with the manager...
Hey-Ho - learing the expensive way!
