Whats your view on credit from previous lenders

As previously mentioned i applied for a vanquis card a couple of times and was rejected. i now know that was probably due to me not cleaning up my credit file
But have just discovered that the card is offered by Provident who were one of the creditors in my BR petition
My question relates to credit in the future would it be best to avoid previous lenders
Although my credit file will be clear soon (six years) i'm guessing these companies would still keep records of previous defaults or are they not allowed to keep them after six years
Thanks

After 6 years your credit report should be clean...its worth doing the clean-up exercise before you apply.
Records are usually kept 6 years anyway. Remember that the larger lenders usually have more resonable terms & conditions & especially interest rates. Provident rates are scary.....189% I saw recently!!!:eek:0 -
189%
Still not as scary as logbook loans with 437.4%:eek::eek:0 -
I hope you do not mind me replying but after the horrible experience of being in debt and going through bankruptcy why would you want credit again especially with these sort of people.I never want credit again. I will always live my life now the way it used to be years ago, if I cannot afford it I wont buy it.
Dont go through everything you have been through and put yourself at risk of going through it again.
I understand I do not know your situation but I would rather skint and happy, than in debt and miserable again.0 -
totally agree dont dig a whole again its a long way to the top live in credit not in debt0

I have been br 4 months and a few months ago I dreamt I had got a catalogue and had used it, I woke up relieved,
To richessex please do not get into debt again. Its easy to get into debt and as you probably know it is harder to get out of it.0 -
Do you remember the days when you could go out 6 times a week, eat drink and be merry, pay your bills, buy fags and take aways............ all for £12.50
Now do you remember how and when that all changed........ just say no0 -
Does anyone know where the credit file clean up sticky went, why it went and how we can get it back???

I can remember when I was 17 and just got married, we had our eldest child, who is now 22 and we had £2 left at the end of the week, only had a small mortgage and no other debt. I was happy and somehow years down the line credit seemed a good idea. Now married for 22 years, we are coming full circle and still only seem to have a few pounds left at the end of the week, we are both br and neither of us are proud of that. But I can honestly say I will never return to credit cards, catalogues, finance or any other form of credit other than the mortgage. I got dragged down by debt for 8 years, it is not having another minute of my life.0

Don' panic folks i aint going down that road again my life is so much better post BR and i aint doing the time twice
As ive previously mentioned i would only be rebuilding my credit file
I certainly dont want anything off of Provident but as the folks on the CC board say the Vanquis card should be the easiest to get shocking APRs but you use it sensibly keep it 6 months build up your credit rating so you can apply for a more mainstream one with a sensible rate which again you use sensibly or not at all
Its just convienient for things like car hire, booking flights, or even things like buying a computer companies such as Dell don't take debit cards so you have to ask someone to do it for you.
The rebuiilding of the credit file is just so there is a chance that all four mobile operators will offer me a phone not just one, an electricity supplier will let me have a credit meter rather than fleecing me with a prepayment one (although that was installed before i moved in by someone else) but be nice to change it though.
I dont really need credit for day to day living i've managed five years without it but in the off chance i wanted something it would be nice to be able to apply for something and not be bricking myself whilst i was awaiting the decision0
