don't know what to do, buyer is lying

I sold some black trousers on ebay last week, they had been worn once. and i got this messege just now:

"I have just received the trousers and I am very disappointed. They have definately been worn more than once. All the buttons on the back pockets and waist band are missing with threads hanging. They have white marks all over them which may be washing powder. To be honest I have thrown better in the bin. I would like a full refund please as these are unwearable."

I have no idea how to handle this as the buttons on the back pockets were perfectly attached and the trousers were immaulate!
can someone please advise me please?

    i don't do clothes but i would ...

ask him to post them back for inspection with the packaging. damage might have occured in the post.
make it clear that the they were fine when they left you.

when you get them you can pretty well judge what happend. did the auction end a while ago - time for them to ruin them? if not it might be the post.

if you think their lying then just tell them that you can't refund them. damage might be on the front and if you got photo evidence of them being okay then hopefully you'll be okay. fb will probably be affected this way though

I was in a similar situation, the buyer told me that the item was unwearable, I offered a refund if he returned the item but he refused and left nasty negative comments.

well only from the picture in the listing
  • No you can't do anything about it - you don't have proof that they trashed it, if they do.

  • Clothes can be tricky really, what is excellent cond to one person maybe good/ok to another. I once bought some trousers for my daughter which were 'excellent' condition, and when arrived i'd class as being playwear!! From a buyers perspective it wasnt worth me returning as the postage was more than item price!! I do sell to, so understand, but i'd have just refunded and told buyer to keep the item if i'd made a mistake, and misadvertised. I'm afraid i did leave a neutral, as it was her fault for saying they were excellent, when they had buttons missing, well worn at the bottoms and also very plucked!!
If google doesn't know it, how should i?

Is it possible she has got mixed up? There's a big difference between you saying they're immaculate and she saying there's buttons hanging off, which makes me think she might have bought two pairs of similar trousers? Happened to me before on more than one occassion. Maybe you could have a look at her buying history? Otherwise I would go with the comments above and just ask her to return them for a refund. Maddening but it's the best route to minimse trouble
