is this a bicycle or motorbike? if a motorbike, check out http://www.almax-security-chains.co.uk/ (might be a little overkill for a push bike)

There is a kind-off testing standard for bike locks, the "sold secure mark". There are three catagories, bronze, silver and gold, depending on the value of the bike.

Their site is soldsecure.com but there is an easier to read list of them here

Places to price them up include wiggle.co.uk, evans cycles. Or you can run the lock names through pricerunner or kelkoo to get prices too.

Bear in mind the strong locks are generally HEAVY.

IMHO Evans is only cheap if its in their sale, outside that time they're pretty much well rrp. Wiggle's good though...

Also try searching on https://www.bikepimp.co.uk it's a bike specific price comparison site.

Try a local lifting gear company.

I used to subcontract for one for crane and lifting gear repairs and installation . They used to sell a security chain with oblong section links that defied anything but a sthil saw disc to cut it , 48 inch Record bolt crop blades shattered before even marking it . Not cheap but damn near impregnable, they also sold special padlocks that fit the links perfect so no chance of forcing .

Just be a little aware of this list, some insurance policies will require proof that you've bought (and possibly used) one of the locks off the list...

I also agree about Evans - ok in the sale only. Wiggle can be quite cheap for some stuff and their service is good. I like Chain Reaction Cycles best though: cheaper than anywhere else for nearly everything, great website, free (quick) delivery, and excellent service too.

CRC has good deals on plenty of Kryptonite locks. The better ones come with 'anti-theft protection', a promise of reimbursement if your bike gets stolen as a result of someone breaking the lock. If you read the small print though, this might not be so great after all since they need you to send them evidence that their lock was at fault (i.e. you have to hope that the bike thieves were kind enough to leave a broken piece of lock lying around). Also they're based in the US so dealing with them might be slow.

For lower-risk areas and less expensive bikes, the Kryptolock LS U-lock is a great price (50% off) at £14.99. The 'LS' models are a couple of inches longer than the standard U-locks, meaning that it's much easier to secure both the frame and one of the wheels as well (if you have to choose, lock the rear as they're more expensive to replace). If it's serious security you need, the Solid Secure Gold rated New York Chain is also good value at £59.99. In any case, it'd be wise to combine the main lock with a cheaper lock around the front wheel (and if possible again around the frame) for added security and deterrent factor.
