Asda £1 offers, a good present?

I'm thinking of buying a load of the £1 offers from Asda and filling a box up for a present for my mother in law.
Would you be offended at a present like that?
What should I put in the box?
I just thought it would be a change from the usual chocs/flowers etc.
We have bought her a really smart set of saucepans as well.

Sounds a great idea!
You could make her a box of luxury, bubble bath, shampoo, conditioner, choc bars.
Or a breakfast box, tea, coffee, jams etc.
There are loads of offers on at the moment, worth doing I reckon.
It's not the cost anyway, it's the thought that's gone into it.
We bought my MIL some saucepans for Christmas (and a few other things) and she loved them!I Believe in saving money!!!:T

The tartan bits of my DNA would have no problem whatsoever with a present like that!
PS. Mind you, I am someone who gave a lady friend a goose egg for Easter. I "blew" it, so she still has the shell intact, and cooked her an omelette with smoked salmon and herbs. The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life.0 -
I'll give it a go, if it works it's what I'll get everyone for ChristmasI’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the Old style MoneySaving boards.

I did a similar box for my OH for valentine's day, and he cried when he got it as he was so touched. Ahhh. It wasn't all £1 things, I also got some bargains from Amazon, and a few xmas left over things from Ocado, when they had them reduced.
I put in: bubble bath set, valentines' sweets and chocolates, address stickers with his name and address on them (pay postage only from Vistaprint, plus cashback from Quidco), chocolate monopoly set, liquer chocolates, playing cards, a kite, a CD (£1 from our local newsagents), a photo frame, notebooks, pens, puzzle book, magazine, T shirt, scarf, a teddy and a cute frog with love hearts on it.
Most of them were from Tesco, Ocado, or a store on Amazon called Present Time, which had a good sale on at the time. They weren't all £1, but not much more. Not sure I'd have the energy and imagination to do more than one at a time though.
Now here's another idea for her:

One of the best Christmas presents I've ever done was just after I was made redundant and we didn't know how long the money was going to last. We agreed to set a limit of just £5 and to try and get as many decent (not poundshop "tat") presents a possible.
I decided to try and get something to eat, drink, smell, read and wear for an average of £1 each. Eat and drink was a little bit of Xmas cake and a little bottle of wine from M&S. Smell also came from M&S' travel sized cosmetics. Read was a book of daily horoscopes for her star sign, so lasted all year. However, I "copped out" on the thing to wear and got a £1 gift voucher! The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life.0 -

I think that's a lovely idea. I wouldn't be offended in the slightest.
My H did a box of lots of "pink" things one Valentines day (athough I suspect they cost more than £1 each) - still was a lovely suprise since he had it delivered to me at work!I have a gift for enraging people, but if I ever bore you it'll be with a knifeLouise Brooks

In the special occassions and celebrations forum theres a few threads on various hampers and gift boxes - filled for a reasonable amount
I did a baking hamper for XmasLove is the answer. At least for most of the questions in my heart,
Like why are we here? And where do we go?And how come it's so hard?

I think it's a lovely idea & I would love it myself! It shows both thoughtfulness and care have gone into the present.0
