Strawberry's everywhere

Hmm ok the 10 strawberry runners i'd given up on arriving, arrived... 4 weeks after i ordered them!!! Only problem is the planters i was going to use for them now has new strawberrys in them that i bought at the weekend having given up on these arriving.

I do have a spare couple of grow bags are these suitable?

i know they will be fine but im thinking about at the end of the season when they go dormant im thinking that growbags are going to be a pain, at least with planters i can just ignore them till spring. if i grew them in bags what would i do when they go dorment? dig them up or leave them?

Oh well on the plus side i now have 22 strawberry plants in total!

I had some in normal pots last year and ignored them all winter. This year they'e sprung back to life. I had meant to move them into a planter but forgot to do it before they came back to life. I'll be collecting all the runners I can for the planter this year.

Mine were fine in pots and I'm sure yours would be too, the only problem with them is that they take up more room that way because they're not tiered.

The pots were willed with compost from out of a grow bag and standing in an old tray to help conserve water.

I noticed that B&M has strawberry planters like these http://www.amazon.co.uk/Botanico-Strawberry-Herb-Planter-Tier/dp/B0011EV10C but abit smaller for 99p per teir.

Anyone got anything to say about them? worth it??

They look like they'ed save space etc, but im concerned that they didn't have drainage holes, but i measured them up and you could fit 1 X 5" pot in each slot, and use the tub it's self to hold water perhaps or maybe drill holes??

However they look like they might be quite tricky to get water into?? anyway any thoughts 99p they might be worth a go?

    Hi Taye...

Were these the Mr Fothergills strawberry plants that they had supposedly cancelled all of the orders for?

    Thanks

They look good to me. I'd drill holes in the bottoms, carefully though so you don't crack the plastic.

My Mr. Fothergills 'postage only' strawberry 'runners' arrived today and I was not impressed, especially since I expected them to look like the nice little strawberry plants that I bought from Morrisons at 99p each. They were in a white jiffy bag, sent by 2nd class post and look as though they have taken weeks to arrive. They were in a clump with a couple of leaves per runner, and the leaves were all brown and the long roots were brown and as dry as straw. I soaked them for a couple of hours and have just planted them but will be very surprised if they come to anything. Serves me right for thinking I was getting a bargain!
