hi we are in ashford kent. ive only lived here 3 years so dont know my way around very well.

we have 1 teen to entertain on trips out and a dog. so we go for lots of walks with picnics - samphire hoe sometimes, brockhill country park and nearby woods. we are english heritage members so visit as many places as we can. weve been to maidstone museum and go to hastings/rye for chips in the summer. we did have annual pass for leeds castle which was excellent but i cant find any reasonable priced annual passes for anywhere else nearby that we could try instead - bearing in mind we do not have young child. partner and i went to wildwood recently on a day off but it cost a lot to get in and annual pass idea seemed very expensive in comparison.

i am looking for other suggestions with or without the dog that wont cost much money please. fuel is not a problem as we get free fuel in company car at weekends and we can make a picnic up if food is likely to be overpriced so i just need places to go please :j

how about Rochester, its not that far.
have a leisurely walk along the high street with its interesting shops. Then visit the cathedral and the castle, with a picnic in the grounds and finish off with a walk along the river medway.
There are lots of festivals that happen all year such as Sweeps festival and the Dickens festival.
Great day out for very little money

Hello - Not sure if I'm allowed to post link but if you look at Kent County Council website home page and then click on the Leisure and Culture link it gives you parks museums and country parks etc - there are other links to PDF file leaflets too.

thank you dawn i love rochester, we have done that already though as the castle is part of english heritage. hopefully go back again soon thought but im trying to find some different places that weve not been too yet.

we got some money for easter from relation for a day out so trying to find somewhere like leeds castle to get an annual pass so we can make the most of the present and go lots of times. everything else i have looked at has been overpriced though so animal parks are out as we dont have the sort of money they ask for

The bluebell walk in Arlington is lovely and open until May 13th. (do a google search for their website). Family ticket for 2 adults and 4 children in £10. Knockhatch in Hailsham is also great but a bit more expensive (again check out their website). Family ticket is £28 but there is enough here to stay all day and there is plenty there to entertain tolders and teenagers.
MSE newbie and loving every minute :j

There is a free booklet outside Tesco crooksfoot with days out in Kent that also has some money off vouchers in the back. Hope this helps.

I've just bought 52 packets of walkers crisps for £5 in Asda = 52 points for Gary's trips out, and am planning lots of "free" days out at National Trust places, it's 5 or 10 points per free adult ticket, I've now got 60 points so Chartwell, Emmetts, Knole, Bodiam castle, Sissinghurst are all possibilities. There's a thread around somewhere on it.

Hythe is a nice walkabout place, there's miles of canalside paths as well as the junk shops and beach. And boat hire on the canal.
We like to go to Dungeness, bleak, windy, wild birds and lots of sky. Broadstairs - cute little place with Dickens Bleak House and a nice beach, and a darling little cinema ( they offered me my money back if I didn't like the film after I'd seen a bit of it!)
The Warren Folkestone. Bit of nuisance to park unless you get there earlier than everyone else, but miles of wild walks, cliffs, fossils in the Copt rocks. My favourite campsite for tents is down there at the start of the warren.
East Langdon Cliffs Dover, you have to pay to park, I think it's NT £2.50 - used to be free and was the place for courting couples, walks along the cliffs to St Margrets, views of France, Dover Castle.
I love Port Lympne wild animal park. It's expensive, but cheaper if you book online, and they now do an annual family pass which is miles better value. Apart from the animals, which are sometimes shy and invisible ( though I saw a snow leopard last time I was there!) there's a mansion house and gardens and terraces and fabulous views over the channel. A baby gorilla has just been born, and baby baboons...
