I just wanted to say to people trying to get rid of credit card debt - don't give up.
We recently approached our 4 credit card companies (total debt £11,000)with a budget sheet, asking them to give us a period of 6 months at repaying £10 a month on each of them, and to freeze interest and admin charges.
3 of them agreed to this, one of them has given us a year's grace. Only one of them, MBNA /Virgin card (the lowest amount owing), has completely ignored our many letters and appeals. We are still working on this one.
Keep approaching your creditors with updates; the budget sheet, so they can see how out of pocket you are, is vital.
We have recently managed to reduce our mortgage payment by £200 a month, knock £30 off our tv/broadband package and my husband may be getting a small pay rise in the summer. All small things but terrifically confidence boosting.
We cannot recommend the advice given by the National Debtline enough - very helpful literature and leaflets and call centre staff.
Keep going all of us!!

Its odd because there was a thread on here yesterday where someone had got an arrangement to pay with MBNA / VirginBank Accounts - Barlcays Premier[/B] - £1000 o/d, HSBC - £200 o/d- First Direct - £500
Credit Cards - Barclaycard £2000 - Silver Card £1300 - Flybe £7500 - HSBC £1000 - First Direct £2500 First Direct Gold £3000
6 credit accounts closed in 2010!

That IS interesting, Innocent_Guy. Don't suppose you noted the thread name?0

MBNA are the worst at dealing with this type of thing. I had the same situation a while back and all but MBNA accepted payment terms. After some hard work and determination I managed to pay them off eventually and suprise suprise they phoned to ask if I was interested in returning as a customer. You can guess what my respose was. - I would never give them any of my business in the future.0

I have a debt problem with MBNA - (owe 10,000) I tried to keep up but I finally gave up trying to make the payments in January. I contacted them and asked if they would accept 40 pounds a month for a while, My house is for sale and hopefully in a few months I could clear the debt. They would not accept anything other than the full payments. They have been phoning me ever since and now they say it will be registered as a Default and the balance will be sold to a third party. I again asked for them to wait to give me time to pay this in full, but they said I have until 30th of this month. I said that in that case they must go ahead as I cannot pay any more. The guy then said they would consider selling me my own debt if I could come up with a few thousand, he was not very specific. I was so surprised I did not ask any questions as I know I cannot come up with any money. Is this normal?0
