Help me look after my new kitchen and appliances please!

Hi, we are in the process of fitting a new kitchen, we have come to the point where it's useable but not yet finished.
Please can I have some good advise on how to look after it?
Any good habits I should get into so things don't get bad/dirty/to the point where it becomes hard work to clean?
Obviously I do the usual cleaning, but wondered if there's a particular routine people have. I have seen the flylady thread and tried to follow it before but that was just before I was going to get rid of old kitchen and couldn't really be bothered as I knew everything would be binned soon.

Also, my appliances:
They are all brand new, except washing machine, but it's only 4 months old.
I have a new double electric oven, ceramic hob and dishwasher.
The hob's easy to look after, (one of the reasons I didn't want gas), oven I suppose should be wiped out after each use. Does anyone have those oven liners that you put in the bottom? Are they any good?

With the dishwasher, I'm currently using Sainsburys tables (Power performance I think) do I still need to use rinse aid and salt and what are the purposes for those? Sorry to seem thick, we didn't have a dishwasher before and everything was old so now really want to make an effort to keep it all nice and sparkling.

Thanks for any advice, it's much appreciated!

I use tin foil in the bottom of the oven, just take it out after a few uses (or when it's dirty) and replace. Clean oven underneath!

I use the Lakeland oven liner and it is fantastic - I would highly recommend it!

I use silicone oven liners and they are fab - def get one. I wash the shelves through the dishwasher every so often and wipe the top down every day - the rest ofhte oven (pan supports, inside the door etc) get a clean once a week.

Dishwasher I use own brand power as I can add less or more depending on how dirty stuff is rather than using a whole tablet. I sue seperate rinse aid and salt though some tabs are 'all in one' Salt keeps the water soft and prevents the dw sacling and the rinse aid stops all he bits stickin to glasses etc. Some people use vinegar instead but I don't find it works...Clean the filters regularly to stop it getting whiffy.

Enjoy your new kitchen - I'm still saving for and planning mine - fingers corssed we will get it done soon

That's great thanks. Will definitely get some oven liners!!
I know you get them in lakeland but they seem quite pricey, I think I would need 2 as 1 cut in half won't be big enough. Does anyone know if they are available anywhere else?
Also is it necessary to do a maintenance wash in the dishwasher? I don't do one at the moment for my washing machine although I keep meaning to.:o
  • It depends where you live. I live in a very hard water area in the Midlands, and I find I need to use salt and glasscleaner as well as the all in one tabs. anyway my dishwasher is bossy and won't work if I dont put the stuff in when it says to.
