Some may NOT support larger sizes due to the way they are manufacured. The operating system of the device may be instructed to only look for a maximum amount of memory and will be unable to access more even if it's there.
The only reason I can think of for manufacturers to continue with this is to help along built-in obsolescence. :mad:0 -

thanks op I had allready placed the order and recievd the card at 22.13 from ebuyyer as next day delivry was free and it did arive next day via currier.
:money: so no problem i have shoped at 7dayshopp, pricestormm and now ebuyerr so all good.
Nice to see that at 12x1600 on top quality i can have 10745 images thats a ok res for a 6/4 photos. thats on a canon a520.
Moneysaving has been great for me.

I think you are right about the 'largest cards around'. Most cameras will take 1Gb without a problem. Also just because a camera (or MP3 player or whatever) doesn't work with a particular card, doesn't mean that it is the size that is the problem. Some devices simply don't get on with some cards, but the Viking ones are normally OK - mostly made by Toshiba, I believe.
Note that there is an upper limit of 2GB for the filing system (FAT) used by these things. This also used to be true of computers and hard drives!0 -
