Claiming Back Tax

Hi,
Hopefully this is in the right section...
Anyway, my girlfriend has just got her P60 from her current job (which she hasn't paid any tax) and she has a P45 from her previous job where she has paid tax from.
How does she go about claiming this tax back? She is well under her allowance.
Never dealt with tax before so any help would be good.
Cheers
Steve

Hi Steve. I think I can help here, I made a claim last year. You're Girlfriend would need to fill in a P50 form, http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/pdfs/p50.pdf. Just fill the form as required, stating earnings, etc. She will need to send her P45 off with the form so the HMRC can do the necessary.

It can take up to 5-6 weeks to get a rebate. :T

She needs to send both forms to her tax office confirming all her employers during the tax year and asking for a refund. If she had handed the P45 to her present employer, they would have made the refund through her pay - too late now. refund will take several weeks as this is the busiest time for HMRC.

She is still working, is that form for if you have stopped?
Also, she gave her P45 to her current employer and they took parts 2 and 3.

    Tax Code: 603l m1
Previous employment: nil (which is wrong as she has earned and paid tax)
    This employment: nil
    Total for year: nil

Hi Steve. If shes still in employment then there's another form you can fill in to reclaim the tax. I'm not sure what form it is, I think you can submit a P50 while in employment. I did it with the P50 because I stopped working. I think she would need to fill in a R40, I'm not sure though. http://www.hmrc.gov.uk/forms/r40.pdf Check on the HRMC there's loads of info on there. - Btw, should always make a copies of P45, just incase you need it for future purposes!

Please read my orignal post. She does not need to fill in any forms - a simple letter is enough.
