Part of the Furniture 1,000 Posts Combo Breaker
Ours is closing in May, remaining closed for 6 months, apparently so that they are not obliged to keep on existing staff, then re-opening as an Aldi.

We had a co-op and a somerfield opposite each other - the somerfield is closed now and waitrose are moving in. Our co-op is really expensive :(

I can't find the list of stores that are closing.

I hope ours changes to a Co-op, Somerfield went to the dogs ages ago. Not much in store worth buying, always empty and everything so expensive. I remember when it used to be Kwik Save, ahhh the memories, they used to do the best belly of pork and huge family pies....

Somerfield was purchased by Co-Op earlier this year and some will be converted in time to Co-Op and some are sold on to others. There are lists on the net

My local Somerfield is closing in May and and I heard opening as a Morrison 3 months later. (there is a take-over sign but not re it's closing for a refit)

I can't find one either! although I did only look quickly.

We only have a Somerfield and 2 Co Ops (1 just opening tomorrow) in our little town, so wonder what will happen to ours?! Co Op is a very expensive supermarket, sometimes they reduce lots of fresh veg first thing in the morning, but only to prices that the big supermarkets charge anyway, so it's not really a bargain as such. I'm always shocked how much I send in there on very little.

In the current Somerfield magazine it says that all stores will close over the next 2 years. I hope mine becomes a Co-Op.

Hi, I'm a manager for somerfield, and the facts are that the Co-operative group now own us, and approx 120 stores out of the 900 had to be sold to allow the deal to happen. Most of these 120 stores are converting to other food retailers. The rest of us will over the next two years be a Co-op. So there is not a closing down sale in all of our stores. I haven't got a list of stores I'm afraid, and can't find one on the net. BUT we do have luxury 9 pack toilet rolls on at half price though £2.20!!!!

yeah, we don't know what we are yet, we are one of the ones that had to be sold on so we are in limbo at the moment. meh, nothing knew... safeway - morrisons (although we only had the morrisons brand but no signs e.c.t) - somerfield (worst of the lot) - dunno, maybe a morrisons again i've heard.
