annoyed

just wanted a quick rant, went to a cash point about six week ago, and tried to draw £50.00 out, cash point said no but the money was in there, went to another cash point to get the money, and also got a statement, which said that the first £50.00 had been taken out, so went in to bank who said that thay would look into it but because it wasnt one of their cash points could take up to 2 weeks, so i let them have their two weeks then rang them only to be told it would take about a month for them to sort out, so then i gave them until today only to be told two months

this has happened to me twice before, once i got the money back before id even reported it, the other time i didnt,

really dont think im gonna get it back this time, nay one else had any similar experiences? or can any one advise what to say to the bank?

I can think of lots of things to say to the bank in these circumstances, none of them printable here!
I'm sure someone will have some more constructive advice for you, but just wanted to extend my sympathy. It's hard enough trying to stay out of money trouble without the banks making life harder.
Hope you get this sorted out quickly.

The first question is why you couldn't get the money out. Did you only recently pay a cheque in or were you waiting for a transfer to clear? Banks often give ATM or online balance details that include uncleared funds. If you have fallen foul of this then you would not have been able to get the money out because it wasn't there.

The second question is why they reported the money as withdrawn. This has something to do with the third party ATM. I'm guessing but it looks like the third party requested the funds through the ATM network and got refused so didn't pay, but your bank then assumed they had and took the money.
If you have disputed this on the phone and got nowhere its time to complain in writing to the bank. Written complaints carry more weight and they must answer. When they find out what went wrong and pay you back you should demand compensation. £75 is a favourite amount to ask for.
Also check your statements to see if you have incurred any bank charges. You should be able to get them back.
    Regards

i had this happen recently at a cashpoint at a supermarket. it just printed a slip off saying your account has not been debited, I stupidly tried again - trying to get 50.00 out. a couple of days later I checked by account on line and 2 lots of 50.00 had been taken but they had then be credited immediately. I knew there was money in the account.

I am now avoidingthe cashpoint and using our local postoffice - I bank with barclays so can withdraw at the post office and plus they benefit as it gives them more business an dkeeps the smaller post offices open!

It's very annoying, using post offices won't help you if you need money on a night. I thought they had to give you the money back while they looked into it.
