cooking with frozen sausages in SC

  • Depends on the temperature of the slow cooker. Sausages can be cooked from frozen, but at low temperatures it may not be a great idea. Admittedly, undercooked pork is not tremendously dangerous, but it's not as though defrosting something with as much surface area as sausages will be too time-consuming.

I was told by a pork farmer recently that any pork can be cooked from frozen, don't know about the slow cooker though.
  • ooh dear - bit out to lunch now??? I will whack the SC on high and by the time we eat them they should have been cooking for 10 hours so surely they will have defrosted themselves in that time??:o

I've done it before repeatedly and they've been absolutely fine. I always have my slow cooker on for at least 6 hours and they're defrosted after 2 at the max, so 4 hours of normal cooking time.

It's amazing how those with a can-do attitude and willingness to 'pitch in and work' get all the luck, isn't it?

  • I do this regularly too - and we're both still here!!

As a general point, have you got a microwave? If so, you could pop them in on defrost whilst you prepare the rest of the ingredients, if you want to avoid doubt!

( ETA although 10 hours cooking time sounds fairly convincing, I have to say!)

There are lots of variables here; slow cooker temperatures are quite variable between brands, sausages are different thicknesses, one person's interpretation of "all day" might be half the time of someone else's "all day", one person may start the cooking from stone cold, others with hot liquid......and so on!
