Fixed rate and additional borrowing and renting dilemma

Hi,
I'm on Nationwide's Base Rate at the moment (2.5%?) and am looking to borrow around £10k worth of additional funds.
I've been told by Nationwide that I would need to go to one of their fixed rate or tracker deals which at the moment, I don't find that competitive (I've been quoted upwards of 5%!)
I'm a Royalties Gold account holder with RBS so will likely see what they can do for me on a fixed rate, however I have one potential issue...
I'm going to be renting the flat out as of this July.
Nationwide have said to me that as I've lived there for 2 years and therefore didn't buy it with the intent to rent, they wouldn't need to put me on a buy to let.
Would RBS insist on me taking a Buy to Let out fomr them if I went to them??.
Thanks in advance.
