Changing jobs - can I still get mortgage soon?

I am changing my job at the beginnning of April but will probably be applying for a mortgage before or soon after that. How does this affect my chances of getting a mortgage?
It is a joint mortgage application and we are first time buyers.

The main concern that any lender will have is the length and conditions attached to your probationary period (if any) with your new job.

We moved mortgage provider just after my husband changed jobs. The coventry BS were happy provided that there had been no gap in employment between jobs.I'm a Forum Ambassador on the housing, mortgages & student money saving boards.
