Help - just deleted a whole bunch of emails :((

Hi all

Am sure you are just going to say bad luck and be more careful next time but thought it worth an ask :o

I use Outlook Express for my emails (just because I prefer it) and have various folders for items I want to save. One of the folders has several sub folders and this appears to have somehow (probably me clicking about on things too quickly without looking what I am doing) my main folder and all the sub folders would appear to have become a sub folder of my deleted items folder (not explaining myself too well but hope you are still with me ;))

Anyhoooo - I have this morning 'emptied' my Deleted Items folder and have 'lost' loads of other information in the sub folders including photos, holiday booking details, information on purchases etc. etc.

Has it really all gone or is it 'hidden' somewhere in my hard drive waiting to be rescued

Depending on the time frame from when you did it - have you clicked on your deleted folder and then gone to tools and selected recover deleted emails?

Not sure if the following would work but you could give the free version a try http://www.download32.com/advanced-outlook-express-recovery-i22323.html or try to search for a free version.

Would a restore to yesterdays saved restore point in XP work? Not sure on this myself so maybe someone could answer this.

You should have a 'Deleted Items' folder in Outlook Express. Can you see this? If so click on it, you should then be able to see your deleted mails. If so click on the first email, press shift on the keyboard and with shift held down, click on the last email. Then drag and drop them back into your Inbox or wherever else you want them. If this doesn't work report back.

This image shows you what to look for (ignore the dialog box on the right).

Your deleted e-mails will still be in the Deleted Items.dbx file in the OE Store Folder (Tools, Options, Maintenace, Store Folder) provided that you have not compacted the folders since deletion.

You should be able to view the deleted e-mails in the dbx file using OEview here

    Hi expresso

The deleted items dbx file is also clear so looks as though it has all gone. Thanks for trying though

Whoops! Yes I did, obviously too quickly though. Thankyou for humbling me! ;)
