What can I claim for CIS?

Hi all,

I've been paid through CIS since september and want to claim my rebate :-)

I've looked on the HMRC site and can't find anything about what I can actually claim for, I've tried googling but all I get is lots of firms trying to charge me for the privilege.

Is there a site that has a list of exactly what I can claim for, and how much of it?

There are no set levels of expenditure you can claim. You are entitled to deduct all expenditure incurred wholly and exclusively for the purposes of the business.

That's the official phrase, by the way. Don't take the exclusive bit too literally. If something is part business and part private you can apportion the amount paid.

Have a look at pages 8 and 9 of the Revenue notes to the self employment supplement here. They may help you with what you can claim for.
