Hi all, I'm looking for some information to assist my brother. He and his girlfriend have gotten themselves into a debt totalling to around 7k. I believe that the debt consists of rental arrears some catalogues and a loan of around 2k from the provident. My brother hasn't been that clear with details as he doesnt like to ask for help. He said he wanted to get a bigger loan to repay all the debt and lower the overall repayment but I came on here to see if there were any better alternatives to his suggestion. All help is appreciated thanks for your time.

Hi
Very quickly
Please ask them to speak to a debt charity http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/loans/debt-help-plan#help
They need to know what their finances are here and can use this to set them out http://www.makesenseofcards.com/soacalc.html
Check they are getting all the benefits they can by using www.entitledto.com
if he can post here, he would be welcome. We can give advise on the SOA etc.
It is essential that they pay the rent arrears off as they could lose their home. Also sort any council tax debts as thet means bailiffs.
The catalogues and provident can wait if they cannot afford them, send them £1 per week. If they get court papers come here for help.
But one option would be to see if they have a local credit union. Provident loans can be 167% and the credit union may be perpared to loan then some money to reduce the provident loan at closer to 25%.
please do not put the rent arrears on a loan as they are not paying interest at the moment and they are not going to get anything at less than 25%. Once the rent arears are sorted, then aI would alos consider a smaller loan if he can get it at a lower interest rate, or even one of the mega-charging cards.
But if he is already with the provo, his chances of gettign other loans and cards approach zero anyway.
Do they have anything to take to a car boot, or post on amazon?
If they join the £10 a day challenge and a few other things on here, they will be amazed how much they can save, find, earn etc.If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0
