Barclaycard/Mercers ignoring my letters.......

Hi

I am having problems with Barclaycard, I owe them just over £1400 and am currently paying them £50 a month.

I sent them a letter asking them to agree to my payments of £50 a month to be reviewed in 6 months and that I would inform them if I could pay more in the meantime.

I have had no replies to this and continue to get text messages/phone calls from Mercers which I ignore as per advice on here.

I have been paying the £50 a month for the past 2 months and £25 the month before that but they have not sent me anything back apart from the usual "we will instruct a local debt collector...." blah.

I want to send them a letter again but not sure what to say!

I am due to pay the next £50 on friday and will pay of course, but not sure what I can do to stop them.

If I was living in my own place then it wouldn't bother me but because I am living at my parents, I don't want to upset them. My mother is already angry at me for being unemployed (don't get me started lol!) but if she found out that I have debt collectors on my back she would think I was the lowest of the low (yes, I know she's my mother but she already tells me I'm a failure so think she would pretty much despise me if she found out!)

Sorry to ask for your help again, but not sure where to go from here!

    Hello,

Stick with it! Offer them what you can afford until your situation improves. The letters you would not be able to stop unfortunately, but the phone calls you will. I have copied a letter for you to use, send this to them ASAP and it should stop the calls.

Are you looking for work at the moment?

    To whom it may concern

    Dear Sir/Madam

I am writing to ask that you no longer contact me by telephone as your calls are causing me considerable stress due to the frequency, and that they are being made at inappropriate times. Please remove my telephone number from your database and send all future communication in writing to my home address.

I have provided the most recent copy of my income and expenditure to make you aware of my current financial situation. I will continue to make my payment of x on the x of every month and will keep you informed of any changes in my circumstances as I am keen to resolve this issue as soon as possible.

I understand that following this request if you continue to call I can contact the Office of Fair Trading to make a formal complaint.

Please confirm in writing that your records have been amended.

    Yours sincerely

  • Yes, I'm looking all day every day but I think that there are people better qualified than me, and I am being overlooked. Looking at work experience but not getting any replies about that either, just hoping something will come up soon :(

Thanks for the letter, will send that off first thing tomorrow. Are they just threatening the doorstep collector as a scare tactic? Its just frustrating that I am giving them as much money as I can (my OH is paying for it as I have no money, don't know what I would do without him) but that isn't enough for them :(

They stopped ringing me after I sent a letter similar to the above, and then when I went to the bank to change my address after moving back the lady behind the counter was very forceful and basically wouldn't let me leave without giving her my mobile number. Have taken it off my contact details via online banking but that hasn't stopped it.

    thanks again

I would say it is a scare tactic; it sometimes does happen but if they do this person is not a bailiff.

The letter that you have received is system generated, so its likely that the same letter has gone to thousands of people on the same day. So if they were going to send a collector to every house they have sent the letter it would cost them a fortune!
