My boyfriend has just started a new job with an agency and is waiting for a P45 from the Job centre, but at the moment his tax code is 104L. I have never heard of this one and have tried searching with no luck. Can anyone help.

the L stands for your entitled to a tax free allowance, if you multiply the 104 by 10 this gives you your tax free allowance, i.e 1040 quid.
it doesnt seem right, if hes been signing on he should be on the 645L emergency tax code, i.e a full entitlement to the tax free allowance.
on the code hes on he will be overpaying in tax, when he gets his p45 with the right code he will get a rebate.0
