Best place instore/online to buy a double bed - delivery important!

Options
Hi All,

I hope I've posted in the right area. Anyways, I'm looking to buy a double (wooden Shaker style) bed - I'm sleeping on a guest bed at the moment! Price is important, but so is delivery - I need to find a reasonably priced seller who will deliver not just to the curbside/outer door, but to my 2nd floor flat (no lift) and not charge an arm and leg for doing so. So far, I've discovered that bedstar kind of fit the bill, but can't find amny recent testimonials/reviews. John Lewis and M&S have the beds I like, but not at the prices I like! Any ideas?

Thanks

They're just plain rubbish. Overpriced products which are permanently "on sale", awful delivery service and your bed may or may not turn up on the specified day without any prior notice. No customer service whatsoever.

Things may be different now, I used to work for them many moons ago and they were just the worst company ever.

definitely don't go with bensons. Appalling customer service. failed to deliver a bed I ordered at the start of the year and when I cancelled the order they still insisted on phoning me back several weeks later to say there would be further delay with the bed (even tho I had cancelled).

Seriously, wouldn't touch them with a bargepole.

I've heard several people getting beds from ikea then getting a man in a white van (hired through local gumtree) to deliver it to them for a small fee. You could perhaps do this and ask them to deliver direct to your door....

I got my bed from Ikea, they did carry it up a few floors for me- but may have been because I looked as ill as I was!

I would also recommend looking for a handyman/whitemanvan driver sort of service, you can then get a fairly cheap bed from somewhere like Ikea and get the handyman person to carry it up for you. Ikea already charge an arm and a leg for the delivery, so it may well be included in the cost- ask them, if not, hire someone for near enough the same price.

You could also try John Lewis, never used them myself but they do seem to pride themselves on Customer sevice and may well offer this as part of the service. Again, you would need to ask.
  • I'd recommend trying a little local shop. The one that I used charged £10 for delivery and another £10 to take the bed up stairs (as many stairs as you have). They were far more helpful than the big chains and the bed was delivered in 2 days.
