what a stupid suggestion, if a business cant afford an extra 20p per hour per employee then they shouldnt be in business.
why doesnt the government do the sensible thing and raise the NMW to 7 quid an hour.
the government has already taken the 10 percent tax band away from the low paid, to deny them the NMW increase inline with inflation would be suicide.
for some employees the NMW increase is the only way to get a slightly better wage, even if it is 5 or 10 pound a week, that small sum could mean the difference between having enough to eat or not.0 -

No one has a right to a payrise - if those at the bottom of the wage scale get a huge payrise without having to increase their productivity, those above them will demand similar increases."You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0 -

I can see both sides of the coin here, if the buisness has to find more money to pay employees who are above the minimum wage then there are all the costs that included in that ( well there are here where i live) the amount of social security goes up as well as the salary this means that the employer has to find the money for these costs as well. Employers are trying to keep people employed with reduced revenue coming into the company and that is not easy at times like this. As an employee we want a descent salary and dont wont pay decreases but if it is the choice between that and no job, which one do you take??0

Ridicolous.
The fact is those on minimum wage are on it for a reason. If they want to be paid more then they should make the sacrifices and get themselves better jobs.
£5.73 is a reasonable wage for a lot of the lower end jobs and if companies are forced to pay often complete muppets £7 or whatever to stack a shelf there will be lots more bankruptcies and job losses0 -

the wage goes up about 15p a year it will not go up to 7.00 for years not everyone is lucky enoth to get better jobs its not that easy or no one would work for 5pound odd would they if i had a business i would pay 7.00 minimum and people then would work better0 -
Where I work, when the NMW goes up, everything in the shop goes up.
When everything in the shop goes up, less people come in to buy.
The less people that come in to buy, the less money we take.
Soon we won't have a job, let alone one that pays NMW.Tank fly boss walk jam nitty gritty...0 -

You would probably go out of business if you increased your labour costs so significantly."You were only supposed to blow the bl**dy doors off!!"0
