Can't believe that creditors are accepting!

Have had some good news at last about our £85000 debts.
Letters have started to arrive (Egg CC, RBOS Credit Card, Morgan Stanley CC and Tesco Platinum CC) agreeing to the offers that CCCS have made for us of  £1 and £5 a month. These creditors account for about 60% of our debt!
I know its only a tiny tiny drop in the ocean but it makes me feel something is happening.
Stupid thing is, GE money (owed £126) are the ones jumping up and down.

Thankyou , thankyou to this site :T

I work for a Debt Management Company and have done similiar arrangements with a lot of people and GE Money ( the bank behind most store cards in the UK who charge approx 30% on these cards) do get quite ratty at only being offered these £1 / month.

The advice we give is regardless how GE respond ie refuse the offer, make the payment any way - because if they go to court for a CCJ, you have evidence of a repaymnet plan in place with all creditors and payments have been made and obviously they do not want to accept token offers. Most Judges will decide in favour of you.

    Keep battling away!!! :T

Are you paying interest on the debts that you're repaying at £1 and £5?

thats great news janey51, you must be so pleased :j

haven't heard anything yet from any of my creditors if my offer of dmp payments have been accepted, had my CCCS appointment on 7th Feb, hope I get some news soon.

Household bank (formerly known as HFC) are really harassing me, I've done all the right things & everytime they call quote my CCCS ref no & I've asked them to write to me instead of calling but they want me to go into their branch to "go through my budget & work something out" In other words get me to take out another loan at the same extortionate rate as my last one or worse! No way!
I just cannot answer the phone to them anymore as its the same conversation everytime & I've had enough of :wall:
And they told me that they don't deal with CCCS so I had to quote to them from their own leaflet that they are one of the places they recommend people to go to if they are having difficulties

john_kent egg sound brilliant, wish they were all the same, they must realise that we are trying to do something about our debts & not just ignoring them.
hope that you manage to get an arrangement accepted soon with the rest of your creditors :)

amosworks: No, I am not paying interest so even better. Its been stopped for 6 months.
ozzyfan: HFC have been dreadful to us as well. My husband was shaking after one conversation with a really horrible woman who shouted down the phone that he must pay the amount outstanding immediately. I answered a call to a man from HFC who started along the same road with me but I just kept repeating that that was all we could afford. Then someone else phoned asking to speak to my husband(who was sitting next to me) I said he wasn't in and launched into a spiel about how ill HIS bank was making my husband. I was very calm, surprisingly, and eventually said "Well, you obviously don't want to listen. Please do not phone again, I have already asked for all communication to be in writing. Have a nice day." Then I hung up and downed a humungous glass of home made wine.

And I second everything everyone has said about EGG. Absolutely brilliant Customer Service.

One thing that I can see in all these types of mails is that some companies are good to deal with, others appear to be completely horrible.
Yet all are being paid r being made useful offers.
I am fine financially at the moment, paying off a huge cc but managing. But if I do need loans or credit in the future I now know some companies to avoid like the plague.
Out there are plenty of people who try to avoid paying and give the financial companies a really hard time - why on earth don't they concentrate their efforts on those people? You'd thing they'd be happy to have responsible people like the ones on this list trying to sort things out.

That's great Janey51, so glad they are being 'reasonable'. Also, good to hear that Egg are being so supportive - that's refreshing isn't it?

  • Very interested to hear that Egg are being okay - PayPlan had told us that they were the one company likely to cause us trouble if we tried to go into a DMP, and they would probably initiate a CCJ and get their borrowing put onto our house...

Maybe they're getting more reasonable than PayPlan realise?
