Getting a part-time bar job...

Options
So I used to work in a bar the whole time from the age of 17, then worked in a club from the age of 20 and then left when I moved back home with my dad and started my current job.

I don't really know a lot of people down here at the moment (I used to as I lived down here but most people have moved on) and thought that maybe if I got a part-time bar job on maybe Fridays and Saturdays it'd be a good way to earn a little bit of extra money (to pay off those horrific debts!) and meet new people.

It says in my current work contract that I have to inform them if I want to take another job but they won't really mind would they? If anything it would prevent me going out and getting blotto at the weekends? Haha.

I've looked at gumtree and stuff but as there is quite a large student population down here bar jobs appear to be slightly few and far between.

Any advice people? Also if I'm being paid £17k+ in my other job and have a tax code of ....I think 647L what would my second job be taxed at? And would it be worthwhile for £50 odd quid a week?

20% tax in your second job.
  • I thought so, it seems so high and if I was only getting say £200 quid a month then I'd only be left with like £160... and do I have to pay NI on that as well?

Yeah, you'd have to pay NI too.
  • Bah, back to the drawing board then.... I'll just have to earn more commission at work.
