Supermarket/High Street Supplier of non-aluminium deodorent?

Been reading the recent newspaper reports of a possible link between the aluminium componds in deodorents and breast cancer. This was news to me. Are these aluminium-free deodorents readily available in any of the supermarkets or in Boots/Superdrug etc does anyone know?

Many thanks

The one I use is called ROC and is in a push up tube, you can buy a lump of it like a bar of soap but I found I kept dropping it and is would smash to a thousand pieces. You either put it on after a bath and before you dry yourself or just dampen it under the tap for a few seconds and rub it on. Apart from the non aluminium bit it is so cheap, they cost less than £5 and they can last for ages, over a year. They wear away with use. When you think of the cost of the sprays or rol ons, in my house I could not keep up with it how ever many I bought.

I discovered these after having breast cancer and I was told that while you are having radiotherapy you cannot use a deoderant and I did not like the idea at all. I took one in for the hospital staff to check and they said it was fine and they would tell everyone else the make. After using this for about 3 years now I would not like to return to spraying stuff around and it does not sting if you put it on after shaving

thanks for that i was wondering what to use actually stopped using deodorant okay for winter but not warmer days although i bathe every morning
  • Hi,

It's a myth that deodorants can /cause/ breast cancer. I've read this on leading cancer research websites. I always investigate these issues as my mum died of breast cancer age 44, and there is other family history as well.

However, Neal's Yard do two lovely and natural deodorants. One is Lavender and Aloe Vera and the other is Lemon and Coriander (I think). I use these anyway. They are £5.95 each.

    Hope this helps,

    Precious Thing.

We buy Tom's of Maine roll-up deodorants from Sainsburys.
The ability of skinny old ladies to carry huge loads is phenomenal. An ant can carry one hundred times its own weight, but there is no known limit to the lifting power of the average tiny eighty-year-old Spanish peasant grandmother.

My view is that it can't hurt to switch can it? I have been very anti aerosols for many years and normally use an unperfumed roll-on or stick so I will try to get hiold of one or two of the options mentioned.

    Thanks to all who replied.

The above info has really helped me! I read an article that people who were disposed to alzheimers had high levels of aluminium - it suggested using aluminium free deodorant, not using aluminium pans etc. I have alzheimers in my family so shall be buy one of the above recommendations a bit sharpish!!

Yes it is PitRok, sorry I made a mistake. Either the one like a bar of soap or the push up one I use because it is more convenient is like a sort of mineral and salts stone. Apart from any health points, or though I think there should be some concern over aluminium deoderants because in Japan they do not have ones containing aluminium and their rate of breast cancer is very low, I know their diet is very different etc you seem to have to be a scientist to know all these things, the fact that it is so cost affective is reason enough to use it. When you go on holiday this PitRoc one is so convenient especially if you have opened you suitcase and found that something has been pressing on the button on the aerosol and everything is covered with the stuff. You can get it in Boots and I think that if it is easy to buy you are more likely to do it.

The breast cancer-deodorant stories are related to parabens.

Aluminium is more to do with alzheimer's.

I found this after a quick search in case anyone's interested. It seems fairly factual and doesn't leap to any conclusions about whether these things are going to do you harm or not.

My gran died of breast cancer and I believe in looking after yourself and being self-aware. However, many people panic over single scientific studies - which may not even be statistically significant, or replicable. If we worried about all the things the media says can give us cancer, we'd never eat, go anywhere or do anything.
