my measuresment are
bust: 39 inches
waist: 35 inches

Did you try on lots of very different styles or did you try on variations of a particular style you like (as I would be tempted to do!).

I would recommend hold-it-all in underwear and not being too hard on yourself!

From your measurements you are blessed with a waist so I guess perhaps something like an empire line might be nice. Perhaps something with straps (but not spaghetti straps).

I'm not exactly an expert - perhaps do Gok's style consultation and see what it says in the dress section?

It might be work you trying on loads of styles before you order anything.

My measurements are 43-35-40 and i'm only 5'2, I've got a strapless a line dress, seemed to do the most for my figure, balance out my little hips and help me feel slimmer than normal! Something quite structured seemed to make me more comfy and pulled in.

As you have a nice small waist and full hips maybe a fitted fishtail/coloumn type dress would be lovely? It would definately make the most of your curves and prehaps make you look slightly longer(if thats what you want?)

Best of luck and enjoy it!! its so much fun trying on all the dresses!xxx

From what the woman in the shop told me, as a shorter bride I should look for something with a dropped waist (whatever that means!)

I think the styles where the bodice is rouched to one side and ends just below your bum (think Maggie Sottero sort of style) are quite good - I certainly felt taller in them!
    Nobody I'd rather be ;)
  • trans.gifPersonally I would've thought that a dropped waist, whilst lengthening your body, would emphasise your little legs ( sorry hun but YKWIM )
I'd go for something that didn't 'cut me up', ie no waistline etc.
The 'Grecian styles' that are popular atm should suit you perfectly.
Here's a photo of a Maggie dress, see how it 'elongates' her body and hides all the little bumps?

There are a good few like this in Maggie Sottero's 'Destinations' collection, have a look.

could you please look at my photos and let me know if you think these will stop me from short and fat (see above for my measurements) and please let me know what is your favourite and which one you think will complement my body shape.

I think the 3rd,4th & 5th ones are nice.....don't forget you can add a bit of height with heels (but only so high that you can be comfy all day in them!)

I read that "column" dresses can lengthen a more petite lady, and I think you could show off your hourglass figure with one that's quite shaped too.

Go & have a trying on session - the staff in the shop will be able to advise you & you may be surprised at how "tall" & willowy some dresses make you feel:)

I think your measurements sound small! I think ruching around the waist can be really flattering, as is a long, hip skimming skirt. I tried on a couple of skirts that were full and they made me look quite bulky. I also think heels is a good idea to lengthen your silohette.

I think it is well worth being advised by the 'ladies that know.' I think a lovely and knowledgeable gown seller is worth their weight in gold.

TBH I felt a bit uncomfortable going into a bridal shop, but it was really useful, and I thought the owner was lovely andspot on in what she was suggesting. (Cariad Bride in Abergele by the way, but I ended up ordering the dress online instead.)

Also, do you have things about your body that you love and want to emphasise. If you have a great bust, it is good to have some detail there, and draw the eye to it. I am pear-shaped, and avoid anything that lies on my hips. I think it is all about deceiving the eye.

There is a fab wedding dress out there for everyone. I don't like my shoulders and chest (bony), hips (wide) or legs (chunky). But Ive found a beautiful crochet cardigan, and chiffon dress with a nipped-in waist, and they are great.

I'm sure you'll find something fantastic!
