Tax Problem, please help!

I work two jobs, one is permanent and has fixed hours, and the other is when the work is there, and how ever many hours I want(Market Research)

I started the market research job before getting the permanent job, and signed on the P46? that, that was my main job.

I was put on the correct tax code for the market research job, but on BR for the other, which I thought was a tad unfair, as my hours flacuate there.

I rang the tax office last October, and told them that my permanent job is my main job, and the other was only a few hours a week, and not every week.

I thought that the tax office would put me on BR for that job, and the correct code for the perm job, but they haven't.

This has been months now, and I am on BR for the perm job, and paying about £150 in tax a month, which I can ill afford.

When I rang the tax office, they told me they have no record of me telling them what I did, and I was jusrt wondering what I can do?

Repeat your request to them but do it in writing.
If you have overpaid tax (which it sounds as if you have) you will get it refunded. Ask them if it will be refunded automatically or if you have to apply for it.

    Thanks for the quick reply.

They told me that I have no record of telling them that my per job was my main job back in October, so how can I prove it?

They told me that I need to send them my P60's and I am still waiting on one.

They did refund me some money, but that was for work in 2007, and they sent me a cheque in my married name, which I have not used for about eight years.

    The tax office are useless.

All you can do is start from scratch. Did you inform them of your married name
if not do it now. They will have all your records in both names. But like i say do everything in writing. Good luck.
