You could check Project Gutenberg, but I doubt you'll find anything by Tolkien. It's a question of copyright, you see.0

Librivox.org has loads of free audiobooks but they're all quite a lot older than Lord of the Rings (think pre-1923). Like -TangleFoot- said, it's because anything newer than that isn't in the public domain yet so they aren't able to release it. They've still got some great stuff though.0

If you hunt around on MSE, you'll find posts about audible.com and their free introductory offers which give you two audio books for free. After the trial period ends (can't remember if this is two weeks or a month), you can cancel without owing anything and still keep the two free books.
Or if you want you can sign up to be a monthly subscriber - which you would obviously have to pay for.Big thanks to Martin Lewis for helping us start to sort out our finances!!!:A
