home hair cutting...thinning scissors?

i do my own hair cutting ..just short with clippers , maybe 3/4" on top

ive noticed when i used to get it done at a barbors they used thinning scissors on top to give it a bit of a scruffy/spiky look so its not so uniform

my hair clipper set came with those scissors...how do i use them? just random snips here n there or what?

you are kidding, I hope?.....they'll just texture your hair and if you're doing it yourself in the mirror you'll have no idea what you have cut once, twice or even more........and you'll end up looking like forest gump.....the idea (with my VERY limited hair cutting experience) as the name suggests is to thin it out and hence reduce the bulk and therefore as the hair naturally grows out it will not be pulled down.

If you're intent on home cutting with just the clippers then get someone to do it for you then there's no chance of leaving a mohekan tail up the back.

I'm lucky that g/f and her friend (they're in to that kind of thing :rotfl:) cut mine once a month - 3mm is all I'm left with

I use a thinning scissors once in a while as my hair can get ridiculously thick, and cos it's short it has to be tamed (and i'm too skint to get it done all the time!) But i don't have any particular technique I just tend to choose what needs to be thinned and go for gold!! The back can be difficult mind so i've often roped someone in to help me.

I've been doing it for a good 5 years mind so i suppose i know how much to do and what's a good move and what's totally horrific, I just watched my hairdresser and tried to remember what they did.

But i do my boyf's hair now too, a bit at the back and i just cut and comb thru to get the excess hair out. Only a tiny bit though - I'd never go as mental on his hair as i do on mine lol.

A hairdressing student destroyed my hair with thinning scissors. Stay well clear!
