I don't think anyone will think any the less of you for not having a dessert. Wedding cake is fine plus you could make your own chocolate truffle favours.

People go to wedding parties to share in the couple's happiness not to have a slap up meal and free drinks.

On the invites put it's their presence not their presents you want and you would rise tenfold in their estimation and they wouldn't dare criticise your reception!:D
