That sounds about right with applicants:places (when I applied it as 30 applicants per place) but someone has to get in and why not you?

Don't forget in that will be people who just don't meet the criteria (qualifications etc) those who do the 'OMG you have to look down THERE?' who are never going to get a place.

Make sure when you fill in the personal statement you acknowledge midifery isn't all sweetness and light, the downs are worse than any other jobs (I completely lost it the first (and only) time I had to write 'no signs of life at birth'.

I had Alevels so just had to do recent study and did a evening course, but several of those I trained with did access - if you can do it part time that's great.

    Hi,first post here :)
Just wondering about your comment, that you had done A levels so only had to do recent study.
Im hoping to start my Midwifery training,14 years after leaving college with my GNVQ level 3 in health and social care.I was supposed to start my midwifery training but it got 'delayed' (I had real life experience in the world of babies ;) )
I was told i needed to do an access course, but if i already have A level equivalent under my belt would that still count?Could i just do another course to show recent study? I completed a GCSE in Biology in 2006,would that count as recent study?
sorry i know im pelting you with questions but im keen to get on my way to midwifery training :D

You've tacked onto an old thread but I'll try to help.

Although your course is equivalent to A levels, many universities will ask for evidence of "recent relevant study" and although the Biology is a requirement they may well expect something at a higher level as entry into Midwifery is so competitive.

Access courses are an excellent preparation for adults wanting to go to university and would cover relevant subjects as well as study skills and university applications. If an Access course is a problem for you, many universities will accept a unit studied with the OU but it would be a good idea to check this out first with your local university.

If you have any other questions, do post again.
