What to eat?

I am getting married on August 15th 2009 and cannot believe how quickly the time is whizzing by. Most things are organised and now it is time for the finner details. My partner and I are now stuck with the decision of what to feed the guests. We wanted something British and simple, that most people/children would eat. As it is a summer wedding we thought BBQ, but obviously the weather is not to be relied upon. Our second thoughts went along the lines of bangers and mash or fish and chips ... does anybody else have any good ideas for yummy lunches ... or it would just be nice to know what you guys are eating...

We're getting married in October and having a choice of bangers n mash or fish n chips, but we're not expecting great things with the weather! Do you want a formal sit down dinner or could you go down a buffet route? If you did a buffet, anything left could be served in the evening to save you forking out for a separate meal in the evening. The fish n chips could be served in paper cones if you want to give your guests something hot to eat while they mingle?

We were going to have a 3 course, with a traditional british roast. But our venue doesnt have the facility to cater for that.
Now, we are getting quotes for a hog roast, to serve with applesauce and stuffing on barms.
Failing that we will be serving 2 buffets, one in the afternoon, and one in the evening.
The afternoon one will be for less than 50 guests so we will proberbly get it from M&S.
A wedding last year we went to served up steak and onion baguettes, they were really yum!! My sis had bacon sandwiches at hers perfect to soak up the alcohol. This was a quite a posh hotel so the guests we plesantly suprised that they were on the menu.0 -
I love the idea of bacon saries, but my OH was not so loving the idea but I am happy with the buffet we are going to have.
We are having the normal buffet stuff.
A friend of ours went to a wedding reception and they did bacon sarnies. She is a veggie and they had not done anything for veggies so it was just bread and butter for the non meat eaters.JeremyMarried 9th May 20090 -
We are having roast beef with the trimmings. There is a seperate menu for the kids, so they can have a smaller adult portion or sausages/fish fingers etc.Cross Stitch Cafe member No. 32012 170-194 2013 195-207.Hello Kitty ballerina 208.AVA 209.OLIVIA 210.ELLA 211.CARLA 212.LOUISE 213.CHARLEY 214.Mother & Child 215.Stop Faffing Completed 2014 216.Stitchers Sampler. 217.Let Them Be Small 218.Keep Calm 219. we got married last may and had a bbq, we were told by the venue that even if it rained we would still have a bbq type meal hust cooked indoors instead, it did rain but we still had the bbq outside .
we had salmon, chicken kebabs, sirloin steak, westcountry sausages, veggie burgers, new potatoes, ctrunchy salad, and cheeses with bread.

Thanks guys,
The venue is not sure they can fry fish for 90 and chips but that is what i would really like! We will see ...we are having a sit down meal for 90 with soup to start, working on a main and eton mess as desert, then white chocolate profiterole wedding cake.
In the evening we are having bacon butties to soak up the alcohol ...
I guess we will just have to wait and see when we go for our next meeting with the venue ...0 -
what about getting a mobile fish and chip van in or 2 ? Or finding a local place that could manage it, so it just needs to be picked up and served?JeremyMarried 9th May 20090
