Are your venues just as strict on table decorations?

Having provisionally booked my wedding venue now, Can book and pay next week when we've met the Reverand and finally have a confirmed date!
I was suprised at just how strict all the venues were about table decorations.
All of them said no to table confetti, including petals (fresh & dry), glass diamonds/crystals, streamers, party poppers, candles whether lit or not as they said guests would light them and a handful said no to water filled vases.
I have agreed to let my chosen venue to allow water filled vases but no to the rest.
Talking to a few friends last night apparently this is quite common. Just wondered if other people's venues have said the same or similar. I am going to have to completley re think my table decorations now.

I know my sisters venue didn't allow candles. I haven't actually checked with my venue yet. Better do it before my plans get put in to place!!!!

This absolutely winds me up. They have the fancy website, you send off for the brochure, you meet their wedding planner and at every stage you are told 'it's your day' when what they actually mean is 'it's your day...but you'll do it our way'
I was driven mad by vvenues until i found mine. We wanted to use our own caterers...oh no we have to use theirs, ok, so can we have the starters from menu 1 and the main from menu 2...no. You MUST have an alcoholic drinks package for all guests, even though half my guests are tee total...oh well in that case you can pay £6 a glass for orange juice.
It drives me mad that they say it's 'your' day but basically you have to follow all their rules and anything slightly different is frowned upon or met with a very puzzled face. Lots of my friends have married though in hotels, castles etc and they have been allowed to have table confetti, real petals (which i wouldn't have as the condensation from the wine coolers made the colour run all over the white linen table cloths)
Congratulations on finding your venue though and on your marriage!0 -
Yes we found some venues and actually some other businesses were of yes we do X,Y &Z for weddings. But they wont be flexable at all. It seems that even though you are are paying them a fortune you are causing them a problem.
The venues we looked at we did not bother with if they would dictate what we had to have.
Thankfully we have found great venues and some really brilliant people to do the wedding photos, car and things like that.JeremyMarried 9th May 20090 -
I suppose confetti etc can be a pain in the butt to clean up, so can understand that. But vases and things, haven't heard of venues being that awkward.
I haven't asked my venue if they have rules etc for table decs - but I'm not having things scattered about so I can't see it being a problem.Cross Stitch Cafe member No. 32012 170-194 2013 195-207.Hello Kitty ballerina 208.AVA 209.OLIVIA 210.ELLA 211.CARLA 212.LOUISE 213.CHARLEY 214.Mother & Child 215.Stop Faffing Completed 2014 216.Stitchers Sampler. 217.Let Them Be Small 218.Keep Calm 219. The last time we went for a chat with our venue's funtion organiser, they were cleaning up from a function the night before and had everything all over, we laughed and said 'take it you don't mind what we have on our tables' and he said absolutely not! Seems like I am in the minority!0

Hi, We did come across a lot of this when we were first looking but the venue we finally went with havent given us any restrictions except they dont want any party poppers as it is a Stately house in a country park so its a pain for them to clean up.0

That sounds a bit harsh to me.
We saw about 6 venues in total and not one said that we couldn't have certain things on the tables. One was a bit dubious about fresh flower petals in case if water was spilt on them they may run and dye the tablecloth.
I think it is common for no confetti these days but apart from that you should be able to decorate the venue exactly how you want in my opinion.
