Tesco V Asda - online

I have used Money Supermarket many times but the results are always skewed in favour of the shop you are using as your primary shop as it cannot compare own brand items very well.

Anyway I decided to do my own comparison between Asda and Tesco so opened 2 explorer windows and shopped the same list in both stores.

The results ? Asda was £1.20 cheaper than Tesco.

My items were:

Cat food tins x 12
3 packs of own brand baby wipes
100g Gold coffee x 2
4 pint full fat milk X 4
4 pint skimmed milk x 3
Value ham 125g x 2
Petits filous 18 pack
2 x 6 pack muller crunch corners
Walkers crisps 6 pack x 4
Value Jaffa cakes
1kg Sugar
3 x Roberts bread
8 pack Brioche rolls
bag of grapes
8 banana
small apples x 8
low fat pate
rocket
melba toast
sugar puffs
olives
lemon squash
apple squash
apple juice
orange juice

after the many slatings of Tesco I have seen on line recently i was really expecting Asda to be a lot cheaper. Asda were a LOT cheaper on certain items (Muller corners being one) but then higher prices on other things.

As i do enjoy my Tesco Clubcard deal i shall be sticking with Tesco now:rotfl:

If I switched I would save £60 approx a year - i save more than that on Clubcard deals.

Hope this helps someone - although i am sure it won't;)

That doesn't seem bad at all. Must admit, I can't get on with the Tesco online website, it bugs me too much! Though I know they do better evouchers, asda only seem to do free delivery over £50 spends. I'm not bothered about clubcard points, I think I have some of those coupon things rotting away in a drawer somewhere haha.

I do exactly the same when I do my shopping. I like Tesco's express list which makes it easier to shop straight from my meal plan shopping list... Tesco has worked out cheaper for me for the last 2 times I've shopped, plus I've had the clubcard points... And I've found the service better and the drivers much more helpfull... They carry the baskets through to the kitchen for me rather than dumpint my shopping on the doorstep!

That is such a good idea, and so simple to have both open and compare that way!!
I think all the supermarkets must be much of a muchness. As you say, some things are a lot cheaper, others more expensive. Works both ways and it depends what products each supermarket compares on their ad campaigns!!

Oops, my apologies I've just re-read your OP and see that you mention that. It must have been your calling it 'money supermaket' that threw me!

On 6.30pm ITV news a basket of grocery was £4 more @ Tesco than Asda.

My Supermarket is good for things like Catfood, Toiletries, Hot drinks, Vitamins and other bulk buy items.

I saved ££ by buying catfood from Pets @ home against My Supermarket.
  • i done something similar and found Asda to be cheaper, also with Asda home delivery if they don't have the item in stock they send a replacement at the price of your ordered item. Tesco's charge you. I've also had problems with Asda delivery times.

All in all I'm a Tesco's girl - mainly coz of the deals!
