avc tax help

Iam in a company final salary pension and pay avc funds i am going to take my pesion next month and avc fund before the 2010 dead line and work for the same company , i have just paid £ 7000 into my avc fund and but i am worried that if they lump my months salary and £7000 they owe me that i will pay 40 % on the total and not have any salary left am i correct as a friend said the avc lump should go in tax free i hope some one can help as i am worried about the tax, please help as i think i have made the wrong decsion,
