in Cutting tax
Hi to everyone:cool:
I have one question that is bugging me:
I am a non-Eu national, starting to work in the UK as a researcher. My department has now offered me an opportunity to continue to PhD, with a tuition fee reduction as other university employees have.
My question is this: Can I claim the fees I pay as a Tax relief? My PhD is connected with my job, and with my progression within department?
Thoughts would be appreciated..
Thanks

No, probably not. You can only claim expenses which are wholly, exclusively and necessary for you to perform your current role, not future roles.

Both my children went through university and my son went on to PhD.
They were paid and in my son's case it was a worthwhile amount; but it was an untaxable "bursary" of some sort.0
