Out of Debt, how to get rid of remaining Defaults?

Hi All,

I need a little advice.

Late in 2004 i managed to clear all my debts which had defaults on them.

I have just got a recent Credit Report (£2 jobbie) and they are all marked as settled with nothing remaining.

However they obvisously still have the default marked against them, has anyone successfully had these removed without waiting 6yrs for them to disappear?

Any advice on how to go about this would be great.

Thanks
Ian

I had to wait the full 6 six years for my defaults to drop off, even though they were marked as settled. I'm not sure if they can be removed - File Wizzard would probably be the best person to help you.

I've not heard of them being removed but don't pay a 'credit repair comapny' to try and get them removed there is just no such thing!

yeah i figure they cant be removed, i am sure i read on a debt help site (CAB style not robbing ones) that if you pressure them with letters they might remove them.

just annoyed as i am still struggling to get decent credit despite having settled everything, only 2 more yrs to go though :D

i have a Captial One Credit card which i only use for petrol and pay off instantly (i.e. the same day via online transfer) to try and get a better rating, not sure what else i can try :(

To be honest the capital one card is a good idea but some one with defaults or CCJs, credit comapnies (not the decent rate ones) will touch you with a barge pole!

If you ever needed credit your only option (i may be wrong) will be to the comapnies that charge astronomical aprs.

There is no harm in writing letters or phoning them to get it removed but hopefully someone will be able to clear this up for you.

Hi - I read on here somewhere that someone wrote to their creditor asking them as a "gesture of goodwill" to remove the default. This was after they had settled the o/b. In some cases I believe they were succesful, in other places not so. I guess you don't get without asking. A well put-together letter may just do it...

Good luck if you try and let us know how you get on!

Ps: Well done on paying off your debts! I have a perfect credit report...apart from one default on a loan from 2 years ago. This was due to a period of unemployment. I am now approx 10months away from paying of the full amount owed, almost 9 months earlier than the original loan agreement. When I have done this, I am going to write to the company as I outlined above asking for the default to be romved. So I'll let you know how I go too!

Anyone else out there had a successful stab at this?

You could be shooting yourself in the foot here!

Why? Simply because the credit card provider has nothing to report to the CRA's at the end of the month. Instead of a nice long line of 0's on your file (indicating payments made on time), you are likely to be simply accumulating a series of U's - meaning 'facility not used' because you will never have a statemented balance.

My suggestion would be to at least wait for the statement to be produced before making your payment by online transfer.

Well. I have written to all three of my creditors with whom I have defaulted with:

Abbey National: £131 Settled in 2004 april, registered in feb 2004
Fashion World: £235 settled. Settled in 2004, registered in 2003
Capital 1: Default balance £1689, registered in 2003. Current balance £769, repaying at £50.00 pm

I received a letter from Abbey Yesterday saying that they would not remove default. Waiting to hear from the over two. I will let you know the outcome.
I've lost over 100lbs in two years, I can be debt free too.
