And you can always buy your cupcakes at Marrisons, Asda etc to keep the price reasonable. :)

Personally, I think as long as you word the invite as "drinks", I think it's fine. I've always thought it a little strange that some people expect to be fed at an evening reception. The only problem you may have is with the people you invite for the day and the time they're all eating, in case they are hungry? All depends on your timings.

A friend of mine got married quite late in the day and managed to stagger her wedding breakfast. We had a wonderful meal (starter and main course) followed by a large spread of cheese and biscuits plus a chocolate fountain and fruit, which came out around the same time as the evening guests arrived, so it covered lots of options and I believe was much cheaper than a full separate buffet - it worked really well!

Oohhhh, I hope it's not too rude because we're doing that too.

We have our wedding breakfast at 4.30pm and won't finish till around 7pm then the reception is from 7.30pm. For the £1,500 the venue wanted for sausage rolls etc we decided it wasn't worth it. The evening invites state 'join us for a drinks reception' so i'm hoping that makes it clear
