however, i believe that, although no one held a gun to our head and force fed money to us, RBS were completely irresponsible and negligent in giving us that absurd amount of money in the firest place -

Do you feel your actions in asking the bank for this money was completely irresponsible and negligent?
  • Did you tell them about your partners promotion? I know when I looked into voluntary arrangements I was warned about the consequences of not letting my creditors know I was earning more.

also, jonesMUFCforever, yea i asked the lawyer to get RBS to send me out a statement and the interest was added on at the start of the term - it shows money out £25,000 and the balance on the statement was £33,500 x many thanks x

I have a loan from HSBC, was for £14500 and the statement immediately showed the outstanding balance as £16000ish, I think this is probably pretty standard.

I don't think this is really an issue, personally I think it's probably better this way as you can see exactly how much you are supposed to repay. If you pay it off early you should generally expect a refund on some of the interest.

Could the difference not be PPI?

Well if there's PPI involved that's obviously worth the OP looking into, however since it hasn't been mentioned I assumed it wasn't taken out - her complaint seemed to be that the initial balance of the loan on the statement was different to the loan amount she received.

yea - but when you have major corporations telephoning you at work and at home and offering money to you every time you go into the branch for the slightest thing, it is difficult to resist - especially when you are already struggling - i feel that they are the experts - they are the ones playing with shareholder's (now the taxpayers) money and they are supposed to be the ones in charge of this money - but hey ho this is the price i have paid for my stupidity while mr goodwin gets millions per year for his.

it's not a voluntary arrangement anymore - it's been through the courts - they are actually getting more from us per month than they would if they arrestested our earnings (even with my partner's pay rise) so it's better for them this way i suppose - thanks x

Can you not sell some of the stuff you bought with the money and bring down the debt?
